In addition to growth on a strictly agricultural level, for several years the Congedi Oil Mill has been investing in environmental sustainability, focusing on renewable sources, energy saving and Co2 reduction. A state-of-the-art photovoltaic system has been installed in the plant since 2010, covering the entire energy needs for oil production. And pomace is also recovered, with the use of a plant that separates pomace pulp from the kernel.

While the pulp is used as a fertilizer in the fields, the kernel is used to make pomace stone, an environmentally friendly, low-impact fuel that is used both to heat the entire plant and to fuel the oil production cycle.

Frantoio Congedi has invested in a major educational project that highlights practices for reusing waste from oil production. Other green choices at the Frantoio Congedi include the use of electric forklifts for transporting and storing goods and energy-efficient LED lights.

Finally, the plastic free campaign, because eliminating plastic from the company is an act of responsibility, and it was practiced by making aluminum water bottles that allow its workforce to conveniently and sustainably draw drinking water from water dispensers.

The taste of biodiversity

Tomato, walnut, almond, chicory, apple, cut grass, herbs, broad beans, berries, there are so many scents that give us extra virgin olive oils, so many cultivars and so many emotions, a sign of the rich biodiversity we have at our disposal. Our oil comes exclusively from cultivars typical of the area in which we operate, because it is the native varieties that give meaning to our work and uniqueness to our product.
